Bad dice throw

I just told someone yesterday that I never liked playing The Game of Life. It always seemed that things would be going along great and with the toss of the dice suddenly life would take a bad turn. Well, I guess I proved that it is not just on the board game. In real life too!

Yesterday was normal. I taught at the kindergarten, taught ladies, taught elementary school kids, went to the pool, cooked dinner. Went to bed. And in the middle of the night I got up to go to the bathroom and my knee went out. WAY OUT! Crawl to the bathroom and back to bed but I knew that the knee was damaged. Yep. I can't stand up. I can't walk. I can't do much of anything.

Tetsu took the day off from work and took me to the doctors. Not that I'm surprised but I will probably be hospitalized tomorrow (I have to go to a major hospital tomorrow morning) and have surgery on the knee. Which means I will not be blogging for awhile! So this post is to let you know that I haven't disappeared... just am incapacitated.

This is a time when I wish I had all my sewing things downstairs. No going back upstairs for awhile. I can't even direct Tetsu to certain fabric and templates so that I can do some hand sewing. I'm not that organized. And nothing ready to be handquilted either... So... Here I sit.

Anyway... I'm busy trying to master the art of hopping with crutches. Maybe tomorrow I'll be rolling around in a wheelchair again.

I really don't like The Game of Life!

Look at your smile!! Even in a wheelchair, with no quilting or blogging nearby, your happy face lets us know your are OK.Yes,sometimes things like this happen so suddenly, and none of us are really prepared for the difficulties of everyday happenings that we take for granted. Teeth cleaning, showers, toilet, getting undressed, and yes, the cats, the quilting and the blog.Tanya, you will be back to all this soon, enjoy the rest, maybe call it an enforced holiday. We will wait for the blog that " Tells Us ALL".
Tetsu, have patience, there is nothing quite like an incapacitated quilter!!! Cheers, Jean.

You said it "this game of life" and it does sometimes get in the way of our daily grind and sets us back a bit. I'm sure you will figure out a way of getting your hands on something to hand stitch one way or another. We quilters are resourceful!!
Prayers and cyber hugs to you and that all goes well with the surgery.

Oh, Tanya...I'm so sorry for your bad "roll of the dice".

As difficult as this is for you to deal with, you will deal with it with grace and dignity, just as you do with all situations.

I'll pray for you as you have surgery and recuperate from this injury. Please know that I'll be thinking of you.

As for something to do with your hands, I'm sure some of your quilting friends will be able to help you with that. You reach out to help so many, allow them to reach out and help you.

Hugs, prayers and lots of good vibes,

Helen

Gah! And have such a good smile are always looking happy. The nurses and doctors must just love you too. Was this knee a big nasty surprise?

Praying that this too shall pass and that Tetsu can find something for you to do, or you find a way to get around and get things for yourself.

Amanda said...

Oh, what rotten luck. Life really can be a bit of a pain in the proverbial sometimes can't it. As a veteran user of crutches (three broken ankles in eighteen months a few years ago) can I suggest that you ask Tetsu to buy you a pair of cycling gloves, they're brilliant at preventing pain and blisters. I'd love to send you something to sew - just say the word and I'll get something in the post. If you're going to be incapacitated for a while you'll need something to stop you going bonkers. So, I really do mean it, just let me know.

Callie said...

Oh, dear, I'm so sorry this happened to you, Tanya. It sure is an awful thing to suffer to get some time to yourself. Maybe you could ask Tetsu to move everything out of the sewing room to downstairs. Then you could go through it and find what you want... and you could have your sewing downstairs and have Tetsu move some other stuff upstairs to make room?

Dear Tanya,
I will miss you and I will pray for your speedy recovery.
When we suddenly are stopped in our tracks I wonder if there is something God wants us to see or do in that situation; even with a broken knee. Maybe you will encounter somebody in that hospital who needs your warm smile; somebody who will be encouraged by your warm personality. So trust the Lord that something good will come out of this troublesome situation. Look out for a gift from God

At least you're smiling in the picture! Hope your recovery goes quickly! And you are so resourceful, you'll have a project going in no time!

Well, you look lovely in the picture! Too bad you have no hand work handy to keep you going. So, now 's the time for you to ask one of your friends what you can help them do. As a very last resort, try a jig saw puzzle. One with very small and same color pieces. If that doesn't drive you crazy, well, I'm sure the cats will!
Much love and healing thoughts sent to you.

Oh my goodness, Tanya, I'm so very sorry! Maybe after your knee is fixed you can scoot up the stairs, at least long enough to help Tetsu gather some sewing things. You don't seem to be someone who can sit still with nothing to do for very long! Hope your surgery goes well and you are back on your feet in no time.
