This is a quilt that I bought fabric for while in the States last year and started cutting strips and sewing while there. But after a few strips I decided it was a waste of good (new) fabric when I could use all the fabric I had at home (in Japan) and the quilt would be more cheerfully scrappy. So that project got put aside (for 10 months!!!) When my friend's grandchild was born I raided my fabric bins and got started again.
I gave specific instructions to my friend that this is to be USED quilt; used for diaper changing, drooling on, having picnics on etc. It is not to be kept safe in a drawer somewhere or hung on a wall as a decoration. I hope I see it often on their laundry line!

So nice. baby will enjoy it!
The scrappy stuff adds to the quilt. I made an "I spy" quilt for the grand-kids with the same instructions. I see it is much used and still holding up and that makes me happy.
Darling! Wow, that was a fast finish for handquilting. I like the different fabrics a lot--and the backing is perfect. Someday I will go to an Ikea, I hope!
Yes, every quilt should be used, admired, handled . It has been made with much love, Cheers from Jean
I know what you mean by hoping that the quilt will be USED. Many people that I give quilts to say "this is too nice to use". I say that there is no such thing. I hope that all quilts that I make and give out of love will be loved and used until there is no more use in them.
Very, very cute. Your design is great and I'm sure it will be appreciated.
I didn't know IKEA has fabric. I've been there twice and don't plan to go back. I get so angry that they take control of their shoppers and force them to walk through the entire store before finding an exit. No wonder they are Swedish - a very Progressive Place where your life is controlled for you. Oops, I just said something political again. Back to my other self.... ;)
Those are always my instructions with a baby quilt. I want to see it worn out and in rags by the time they are three. I always promise to make a "big boy" or "big girl" quilt later. I really like this pattern. thanks for offering the link which i saved for future reference.
I remember giving my nephew a quilt (2nd one from me, a hugely unusual event), then my SIL proudly showed me it hanging on the wall.
I made some noises, but really, I guess she appreciates it! lol.... I too would rather it is used to death, but what can you do...
It's a very cheerful quilt.
The only quilts I've ever made are baby quilts. One of the nicest compliments I ever got was when a friend told me the quilt I'd made was her daughter's favorite.
